Gro Company Event + Hamper GIVEAWAY!

One of the perks about being a blogger is attending product launches and mingling with terrific likeminded creatives. This week I attended The Gro Company’s excellent event, to celebrate the launch of their new Australian website! The party was held at a spectacular location; Jardin Tan’s Veggie Garden in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens. They spoiled us with an array of delicious morning pastries and coffee and surprised the kids with an Easter themed scavenger hunt! The weather was simply stunning and we had an absolute blast! We brought our camera along to share the fun.

We started our morning with a garden selfie

Cherry and Tiger Make Nutella Hamantaschens

This week, Cherry and her brother Tiger celebrated the Jewish festival of Purim by dressing up in fancy costumes and baking Hamantaschens! Typically, Hamantaschens are filled with red jam or poppy seeds but we chose to fill ours with Nutella! We also added sprinkles to our cookie dough for rainbow flecks of fun!

Cherry and Tiger’s Hamantaschen Recipe:

  • 4 cups plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 small tub of Nutella
  • 100’s & 1000’s
  1. Start by pre-heating a fan-forced oven to 180 degrees and lining 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, sift the baking powder, flour and salt together and set aside.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer, beat together the butter and sugar on high speed for about 5 minutes until it turns pale and fluffy. Then add the eggs one at a time. (You may chose to add some sprinkles into the mix at this point like we did!)
  4. Next, reduce the electric mixer to low speed and gradually add the dry ingredients into the butter mix.
  5. When the dough starts to come together, mix  by hand and shape into a round flat disks. Cover with cling-wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls and flatten into flat disks, about 8cm in diameter. Spoon one teaspoon of Nutella in the centre of each disk and shape into triangles by pinching three sides together.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes or until the cookies turn from blond to slightly golden. Allow to cool on a baking wrack and sprinkle with 100’s & 1000’s. Enjoy!

Notes:  To make a “nut-free” version, simply replace the Nutella filling with cooking chocolate.

How To Make A Christmukka Tree

A few years back, when I first started blogging, I wrote a guest post for  My Poppet; a crafty lifestyle blog that I was totally crushing on at the time! The project was called My first ever Christmukka Tree, and seeing that Hanukkah + Christmas both coincidentally coincide this year, I thought it was appropriate to re-share my step-by-step crafty tutorial!

How to make a Christmukka Tree cherryandme.com

Chrismakah cherryandme.comIt all stared with a mini pine tree I picked up from the “oh so amazing” Design Files Open House. This was my first… ever… tree! I come from a Jewish family and was just a little too excited to get my hands on one of these babies!

Christmukka cherryandme.com After officially welcoming the prickly beast into my home, I cleared the dining table and quickly got brainstorming on how to keep the theme “Kosher” for my Jewish roots.

Christmukka cherryandme.com I decided to decorate the tree with mini dreidels, iconic and totally appropriate for Hanukkah!

Christmukka cherryandme.comChristmukka cherryandme.comThen, with a little help from my clever sister, aka Aunty Nise, we attached twine around each dreidel top, to dot pops of rainbow and “Judify” the tree!

And for the finishing touch, I twisted a foil Star of David for the cherry on top!

Christmukka cherryandme.comTa-da! The finished product! Isn’t she just the cutest? My first ever Christmukka Tree!

Wishing all my loyal readers a happy, healthy and most fabulous holiday season, however you’re celebrating!

NGV – Viktor&Rolf Fashion Artists

On Thursday morning I was invited by the National Gallery of Victoria to the Media Preview for their latest international exhibition – Victor&Rolf Fashion Artists.

The sun was shining! I put my Mirka Mora skirt on along with my favourite heals, blush lippy and a fresh new blouse and clippity-clopped down St Kilda road to grab a soy late before entering the gallery through the waterfall windows. I was re-living the days before I became a mum, enthralled in the wold of fashion, design and art!

The exhibition is a must see! Truly inspirational and a glimpse into the extravagant life of two incredibly talented fashion artists! On display are 40 of their spectacular haute couture gowns, 21 exquisite hand made dolls, behind the scenes runway footage, an electronic micro-sized runway, an entire room wrapped in a lifetime of imaginative sketches and an official Viktor&Rolf design store filled with T’s, totes, caps, cards, signature fragrances, a beautiful exhibition catalogue and a gorgeously illustrated children’s book staring their dog – Swan.

The children’s exhibition is also now open and I’ll definitely be returning with Cherry and Tiger for a special blog post!
