There’s something about crafting that makes me feel warm and fuzzy and oh so nostalgic. I was thrilled when Spotlight and Kids Business invited me to their National Craft Month Bloggers Lunch Event last week. Of course I brought my camera along to snap what I saw and I even made a short clip of Rachel Burke, from i make. you wear it blog, demonstrating her amazing pompom hacks. Love!
Me and my pompom in progress
My craft crush, Pip Lincolne from Meet Me at Mikes inspiring us to make a beautiful mess together 🙂
Each blogger was sent a blank papier-mâché deer head in the post to personalise and display at the event. I smothered mine in PVA glue and sprinkled the entire thing in 100’s & 1000’s!
Here’s one I made!

Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, Live on Stage is coming up, and to celebrate, Cherry’s made a short video showing us how to make Gaston the ladybird cake-pops with only 2 ingredients!
Ingredients: 1. Red + Black chocolate melts
(If you can’t get your hands on coloured chocolate melts, substitute the red with white chocolate and red oil based food dye and use super dark chocolate for the black)
2. Store bought cake
(If your cake is crumbly, use a bit of cream or a splash of milk to combine it into a rich and muddy consistency. We used chocolate mud cake with chocolate ganache icing from Coles)
In a large bowl, crumble the cake with your fingers
Roll the crumbs into smooth balls. If your cake is too crumbly, use a splash of milk or cream to help it combine
Dip those balls into the melted red chocolate and place them in the freezer to set for a few minutes. Then dip the tips in the black chocolate for Gaston’s face. We added extra red powdered food dye to make our Gastons super bright. We found the chocolate was quite thick, so we also added a few drops of vegetable oil for a runnier dip
We found these gorgeous edible googley eyeballs from our local cake supply shop. You could substitute these with a spot of white and black chocolate
To complete the look, draw a stripe down the centre and a few spots with the black chocolate. You could use an icing pen but we made a piping bag by filling up a small snap lock snack bag with melted warm runny chocolate and snipped a tiny hole in one corner. We also pipped a red smile and rosy cheeks for extra Gaston life-likeness 🙂
Ta-da! Poke the bugs on cake-pop sticks and stand them up on a Styrofoam cake-stand. Keep them in the fridge before serving. Yum!
Tickets to Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom – Live on Stage! won’t last as long as these tasty Gaston cake pops! Don’t miss out on all the fun and magic, book your tickets now at www.benandhollylive.com.au Hope to see you there! #BenandHollyLiveAU
I’m still riding the high from last Saturday night’s performance at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne! Whether you’re a die hard fan like myself, or not, Madonna’s Rebel Heart concert would have blown you out of your seat and shot a dart through your heart!
I last saw Madonna in Philadelphia back in 2012 as part of her MDNA Tour. See the post here. My husband and I were staying in New York and booked tickets as soon as we found out she had canceled her Australian leg of her tour. This time round, we planned ahead and booked tickets as soon as they were released! We managed to get front row seats along the run way and VIP tickets to the official before party.
When Madonna first appeared on stage, I was in shock, frozen and in disbelief that I was looking at her with my own eyes, in the flesh, with only air between us! For me, this bucket list experience still gives me goosebumps remembering how incredible her performance was and how lucky I was to be there, that close, in that moment!
Me and my cousin Olga who is responsible for my Madonna addiction! I still have the cassette tapes she recorded for me when we were children!
