Winter Jonquils

Yesterday, Cherry and I went to the market to by some flowers for home. We couldn’t go past these bright yellow and orange Jonquils. They’re cheap as chips and look great in recycled jars. Oh, and I absolutely love their scent! The market smelled absolutely amazing!

I knew it would be some time before I got home, so I asked the florist for a ‘wet-pack’. She wrapped the base of the stems in wet tissue paper so they wouldn’t go thirsty.

I always make sure not to mix Jonquils or Daffodils with other flowers. I keep them in separate vases as their slimy sap can be toxic.

Before putting my flowers into water, I always trim about 2cm off the stems.

For long lasting flowers, I try to change the water, rinse the vase and cut the stems every couple of days.

My tip: Avoid putting flowers near a heater or in direct sunlight. They will last longer in a cool environment and in cold clean water.

Black Leather Leopard-skin Vodka

Mum and I absolutely LOVE organising crazy parties! We always create eccentric environments and go all out on décor, food, flowers, costumes, lighting and music! This year mum and I planned her 55th birthday party at her home. The theme was ‘Black leather, Leopard-skin, Vodka’! Mum hung her most recent artworks and filled the rooms with all her leopard-skin collectables and black leather objects.

It’s Cherry time!

Last Summer, when I was about 7 months pregnant, my husband and I visited a cherry orchard in Red Hill. We hand picked Morello sour cherries.

Morello Cherries are really sour, not the best to eat but perfect for cooking! So… We Made Jam… again!

We Made Cherry Jam was the best jam we’ve made so far! Everybody’s looking forward to taking baby Cherry to the orchard next Summer!

Mini Me!

Last night my friends threw a costume party with the theme “favourite childhood TV/movie/book character”. Inspired by my red and white polka-dot collection, (some would say obsession), I dressed up as mini mouse!

DIY Mini Mouse ears:
Step 1. Part your hair down the centre
Step 2. Make 2 high pony-tails
Step 3 . Tease each pony-tail
Step 4. Pin each pony-tail into a bun
Step 5. Pin a polka-dot ribbon in the centre

I finally got to wear my Sonia Rykiel dress my aunty brought back from Paris. Thanks Nellie!

Painted black mouse nose, white gloves, false eye-lashes and red lippy!

And lastly, I wore my Marc Jacobs ankle boots that were my first ever Mother’s Day present from my husband and Baby Zee!

Cherry’s boudoir

Welcome to Cherry’s room! I’ve been collecting bits and pieces for her bedroom way before I was even pregnant. A lot of her toys and books are from when I was a little girl. The other things are gifts and goodies I’ve collected from opp shops and craft markets.

The little chairs, soft toys and rocking doll are from my childhood bedroom. The rocking horse is from Cherry’s daddy’s childhood! You can still see the “balls & poo” graffiti scribbled on the horse’s back in silver texta. Hilarious! I bought the Freckle Rug from Miriam Bereson and the mushroom sculpture from a stall at Mathilda’s Market just a few months ago.

I bought this gorgeous “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” lampshade from Finders Keepers Market when Cherry was in my belly!

I remember mum taking me to Chapel Street Bazaar when I was about 6 years old and choosing these vintage Mini & Mickey Mouse money boxes.

I’m so glad I kept my absolute favorite doll from childhood! Her glitter gel hair-do still looks fabulous after all these years! I also love my Nana Nina’s vintage musical Barbie Ballerina. The Chanel ribbon is a new accessory. Lol!

I don’t know about you, but if I was a little girl again, this would be my dream bedroom!

Hello Baby Zee!

Finally… some photos of Baby Zee aka Cherry. We called her Baby Zee before she was born and it’s sort of stuck. How cute is she? Photogenic just like her mumma don’t you think? 😉
