This week I have a doll making workshop to giveaway!
(leave a comment or enter your email address on the right to be in the running to win this fabulous prize)Â
Cherry and I visited Little Sparrow today in their new shop on Carlisle Street, Balaclava. The boutique is filled with the most beautiful natural toys for little and big kids. Cherry was mesmerised by all the wonderful things on display and we both had a fabulous time!

I loved the traditional wooden blocks, handmade dolls, felt animals, crocheted blankets and knitted cardigans.
The rear of the shop is a crafter’s paradise!
Little Sparrow also run workshops. Shelly, the owner of the shop and resident doll-maker, has been extremely generous and is giving away a Waldorf dollmaking Sunday workshop! To win this incredible prize, just leave a comment on this post or sign up to my newsletter by filling in your email address at the top right-hand corner of this blog before midnight 3rd September, 2011. The winner will be randomly selected and notified via email. Good luck!

And of course we didn’t walk away empty handed from our visit. I bought Cherry one of these irrisistable hand knitted cupcake beanies with a cherry on top! So damn cute!

I’ve been wanting to post this ‘Elleski Flower Girl’ movie clip for ages, so here it is!
The movie of me was filmed by my friend Olivia before setting up for an art exhibition at Nellie Castan Gallery in Melbourne. Before every opening, we always made sure there was a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers to welcome the gallery visitors. We also tried to compliment the works on display by matching colours, textures and volume.
The stunning artwork behind me is by Annette Bezor. She paints the most beautiful larger than life hyper-colour portraits of women. She is one of my favourite painters and I was lucky enough to model for her!

These 3 paintings will be in her upcoming exhibition:

Have you been to Gewurzhaus herb & spice merchants in Hawksburn Village yet? OMG it’s UH-MAZING! I went there last week to get a birthday present for my friend Marinka. She absolutely loves cooking and thought I’d find her the perfect gift there. Boy did I have fun!
The shop is packed full of kitchen goodies! There are hundreds of varieties of spices, herbs and blends, not to mention the quirky cooking utencils and one off vintage tchotchke.
Prawn & crab spice, Aussie meat pie spice and Egyptian Dukkah are just a few of the scoop-your-own blends on display.
Absolutely beautiful packaging and branding designed by the owners.
“When you open a jar of Vintage Merlot Salt, you are hit with the aromas of a vineyard: fresh, fruity and delicious. Use it with white fish, salmon, chicken, red meat, pasta or to finish off a fresh salad. Also try it with desserts and chocolate.” -Â Â Gewurzhaus

Vintage flirty aprons and tea towles by Jessie Steele . Cherries and polka-dots! Delicious!
The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the products.
Visiting the shop reminded me of the time Marinka and I made preserved lemons. My mum brought over 2 heavy boxes of lemons from my aunt’s garden. This is how we made them:
Step 1 – Cut into the lemons as if you were quartering them, but not all the way through.
Step 2 -Â Rub the lemons with loads of salt.
Step 3 -Â Place them in a sterilized jar.
Step 4 – Pop your favourite spices in. We used Szechwan peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, star-anise, whole red chillies and a few cloves of garlic.
Step 5 – Fill the jar with freshly squeezed lemon juice all the way to the brim.
Step 6Â -Â Â Seal the jar with an airtight lid and store in a cool dark place for at least 3 months.
Hay-presto! Use preserved lemons sparingly in roasted chicken, fresh salads and seafood dishes. Yum!
Wow, what a day! Cherry and I just got back from a crazy day at Life in Style trade fair. We were very lucky to take some snaps of our favourite stalls. These photos are of the things we saw and loved most!
Cherry and me at Down to the woods. They stock the famous Freckle Rug that everyone’s going gaga for! Not to mention those adorable animal lamps! I’m thinking of getting a Bambi lamp for Cherry’s room. The lovely Amber took this photo!
Cherry, in her cherry bib, checking out Poppies for Grace’s beautiful stand decorated with hand made paper flowers. Very pretty!

Cherry and I are so lucky to be part of a gorgeous group of new mums and bubs from around our neighborhood. We all meet up once a week, usually at a cafe, to chat about babies, boobs and sleep depravation.
Little Eats is a great website we use to find Melbourne’s best “baby friendly” cafes. Can you imagine trying to squeeze 10 prams around a table? Oy vay!

Last Tuesday, mummy Jennifer arranged our weekly catchup at  The Colour Lab cafe, shop and gallery for an unusual meeting… Jennifer, her husband Charles and baby Jack were being filmed as part of a reality TV show about relocating from California to London and to Melbourne! How cool? She invited our group to be filmed as part of the show!
Check out Jennifer’s wonderful blog We live where we are about her travels and pregnancy.
I love this photo of Little Lulu!
You can tell why they call it The Colour Lab!
Colourful courtyard with outdoor furniture by House of Orange. Love the potted hot pink Cyclamen on each table top!
PS I recomend trying the Colour Lab’s $10 soup + coffee lunch special.
And for those soy late drinkers, like me, they use Bonsoy! Bonus!
