Baby Shower Love

My mum Natalia, aunty Nellie and best friend Lauren threw me the most wonderful baby shower on Sunday! They invited my best girlfriends and family, filled the room with freshly cut roses and tulips, organised funny games and prepared a Summer feast!

Cured trout, fresh breads, quinoa, caprese, nicoise and mango chicken salads. Yum!

The girls playing baby bingo, pass the parcel & guess that baby photo

Opening all the gorgeous gifts. Thanks girls!

Polka-dots for Baby Zee

Sweet treats – pavlova, chocolate brownies, cherries, watermelon and grapes.

…and of course Danny and I made our signature Trifle!

Loz n Dave’s Wedding

The beautiful Bride on the way to her wedding!

Lauren, what beautiful shoes you have!

Lauren created her own original bouquet with a collecting of floral brooches from women in her family. OMG! It was absolutely stunning!

The bride & groom held their wedding celebration at David Bromley’s Art Studio, situated in an incredible heritage listed building in Melbourne. Danny and I got carried away taking photos throughout the long corridors and massive rooms covered in paintings and filled with industrial and vintage collectables.

…and that’s me, 5 months pregnant!

Summer Styling

Even over the Summer holidays, mum and I like to keep the beach house looking cool with pail oaks, natural linen, fresh herbs, cut flowers, glossy coffee table books, brightly coloured collectables and lots and lots of bunny rabbits! But I think it’s time to put the Xmas decorations away…

Canned Tomatoes

This Summer, I planted tomatoes in metal ‘Oscar the Grouch’ trash cans. Before planting, I hammered a few drainage wholes in the bottom and lined the base with fly-wire mesh so the soil wouldn’t fall out. As tomato plants don’t have long roots, the cans didn’t need to be filled entirely with soil. So to save space, I stacked the bottom half of the cans with crushed used polystyrene boxes that I picked up for free at the local green grocer. I then filled the top half with a good quality potting mix. I also planted basil and coriander around the sided. This is what they look like now.

We made jam!

Today was a gorgeous sunny day and we decided to take a drive down to Red Hill Strawberry farm. They we’re selling 6kg crates of misshaped berries, perfectly fine for cooking. So… We made jam!

Wash the strawberries

Cut the green bits off

Add equal weight sugar (ie: 6kg strawberries = 6kg sugar)

Cook on a very low flame until the fruit is soft

Sterilize sealable glass jars

Ladle the hot red concoction one by one

We made jam

We also made scones, but that’s another story…

Enjoy with the ones you love

Just like a bought one

We could have celebrated Australia Day with Aussie tattoos, Aussie flag capes, VB stubbies and cricket on the beach… but we decided baking home made lamingtons would be a much more… well us!

We cheated a little using store bought sponge cake but redeemed ourselves with our home made strawberry jam!

A special thank you to Donna Hay on Twitter for the awesome suggestion!
