Remembering Marysville

It’s been five years since we lost our family holiday home in the tragic fires that ripped through and destroyed the once incredibly beautiful town of Marysville. My grandparents Nana Nina and Papa Jerry built our wooden cottage back in 1990. My sister and I spent most of our childhood there with my parents, grandparents, friends and family. We loved hiking through the forrest, collecting mushrooms after the Autumn rain, fishing at Buxton Trout Farm, picking blueberries from the local berry farm, swimming at Marysville Pool and feeding rosellas on our balcony. Marysville was a very special place and we will treasure our time there forever.

Even though this post is slightly off the Cherry and Me topic, it is very important and close to heart. It’s a somber feeling flicking through old photos but I’d like share with you the very first moments we visited the ashes of our dear little house one month after the monstrous blaze swallowed everything.

My parents were there on Black Saturday and miraculously escaped moments before to safer grounds. An extremely traumatic experience that reminds us how precious life is. We plan on rebuilding one day. See our recent visit to Marysville and Healesville here.
